Who? Maggie Gresham and OPEN
What? Arrival
When? A few days after Blaine's arrival, Sunday afternoon
Where? The beach

This could not be happening. It just couldn't. There was no way on earth that Maggie could've screwed things up this badly. In the wake of Kurt and Blaine's wedding, which had rapidly disintegrated into a murder scene from some godawful movie, everyone had been in a state of depression, shock, and grief that was far beyond their ability to just deal with. You didn't just "deal" with watching a dear friend, a precious person that you loved dearly, being shot down in front of you in cold blood. There was no dealing with that, and while everyone was horrified, and trying to be there for Blaine at the same time, while somehow trying to keep living, it was far, far too much.

It was what had driven Maggie, grief-stricken and alone, to a bar in Manhattan, where she had every intention of drinking until she was numb. What she hadn't expected was to find a familiar face there, someone who'd been at the same wedding, witnessed the same horrifying scene, sitting a few barstools down from where she was planning to sit. Neither of them really wanted or needed to be alone in the wake of that, and after far too many drinks, they ended up back at Maggie's apartment, where they'd shared a drunken one-night stand. It wasn't exactly the run of the mill pull, given that they'd known each other for years, and were good friends, but it had been something that both of them needed -- the contact, the intimate connection, the reminder that they weren't alone, that they could still feel something.

The next morning, he'd left, though both of them promised to keep in touch... )

It was the happiest day of Blaine's life.

Bar none. There wasn't a single time in his life he could remember ever feeling this ecstatic, and he couldn't stop smiling. His faced ached, because a smile had been stuck on his face ever since he woke up that morning and he had been bouncing off the walls ever since. Kurt Hummel was his husband, and there wasn't a thing that could make life more perfect, as far as Blaine was concerned. The wedding had been beautiful. Absolute perfection. Kurt wouldn't have settled for anything less. Walden in Aurora was the only venue Kurt would consider in Ohio, and it had been booked for over a year for their special day of August 8th. Kurt had been in his element arranging that wedding. He did it all, right down to designing their suits, the invitations, and made every single wedding favour himself. They had stayed the few days before the wedding at the Walden Inn, just relaxing together and enjoying everything about the fact they were about to get married. Kurt had it all planned like a military operation, so that late in the proceedings, there had been nothing left to do but chill and enjoy every single last moment of it.

Of course, they hadn't spent the night before their wedding together. Blaine shared a room with his Best Man, Puck, and Kurt shared another with Quinn, Mercedes, Santana, Tina, and Rachel... a sleepover reminiscent of their many back in high school with lots of giggling and squealing over the fact Kurt was finally going to marry Blaine, the love of his life, and things couldn't be more perfect. There had been lots of cuddles and happy tears, and teasing Kurt about his upcoming wedding night. It had probably been the best sleepover they ever had, and everyone went into the wedding day on cloud nine, more than ready to see their two favourite gay guys tie the knot. That morning, Kurt and Blaine got up extremely early and took the first flight out of Ohio to New York City. They legally got married at a quickie ceremony at City Hall, and were on the next plane back to Ohio for their family ceremony and reception in Ohio surrounded by family and friends. There was no other way they wanted to do it, and the timing of it all had gone off without a single hitch.

The entire day and into the evening was the epitome of wedding perfection... )

Mercedes heart was pounding harder and more fast in her chest than it ever had. She felt like she was going to have a heart attack, but it was just adrenaline and shock. Total and utter shock. Unlike anything she had ever felt before. There was a ringing in her ears too. She just stood there watching the younger ER doctor adorned in light blue scrubs as he continued to speak, but it was like nothing was commuting anymore. She clung to Puck's side, her fingers sunk into his arm in a vice-like grip as her legs began to feel like jelly. Puck had paled beyond belief. He didn't even look just sick, he looked like he was going to pass out. In fact, it was right that minute as Mercedes dark eyes flicked to Puck's face to check if he was okay, that Puck did just that. He slumped hard in against her and her arms closed around him, catching him before he fell. The doctor reached out to help, but as Mercedes stumbled under the added weight to her legs, she didn't fall to the cold, hard linoleum ground of the Lima Emergency Room, her knees fell to warm sand and the sound and scent of the ocean lapping engulf her senses, capturing the nauseating sterile hospital smell and evaporating it.

A reflexive stunned gasp fell from her lips. It was night time, but the hospital was gone. Puck was gone, the doctor was gone. On god, the shock of what had just happened hit her like a tonne of bricks and horrified sob escaped her and echoed through the sea air. "PUCK!" she screamed out, looking around frantically with another panicked sob. What the hell was going on?
